Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Brian Wilson (Labour), on Tuesday, 16 June 1992, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 21 members in total.

CONDUCT OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR NATIONAL HERITAGE

That this House draws the attention of the Secretary of State for National Heritage to the fact that his repeated use of the word `British' as synomymous with `English' in relation to hooliganism in Sweden is as foolish as it is inaccurate; and notes with concern that the Secretary of State's remarks could have serious implications for the other home countries in terms of European participation if taken at face value by the football authorities.

Amendments

The Early day motion has received 2 amendments.

270A1
leave out from 'draws' to end and add 'attention to the fact that the Secretary of State for National Heritage, when referring to the behaviour of fans in Sweden and describing them as British instead of English, corrected himself and needs little help from commentators.'.
270A2
at end add 'which is but one of many reasons why it would be sensible for Scotland to remove this confusion totally by taking the appropriate political steps.'.
