HUMAN RIGHTS OF WOMEN IN ISLAMIC COUNTRIES

That this House expresses its grave concern at the increasing repression of women in Iran and in other countries with the Islamic world where the fundamentalist wing of Islam is gaining ground, and is itself threatening the basic human rights of women, to have the freedom to engage in professions and take a full part in the societies in which they live; deplores the increasing incidence of torture of women for dissent, evidenced by the increasing number of women in such countries who are driven to suicide; supports the brave women from the Islamic world who are raising this issue; urges the Government to make known to the government of Iran, this country's deep abhorrence of the repression, and urges honourable Members of the House to offer their support for the demonstration in London on 23rd July.
