COMMONWEALTH WAR GRAVES COMMISSION
That this House recalls the ultimate sacrifice of the 1,694,947 servicemen and women who lost their lives in the two World Wars; regrets the cut in financing for the current year imposed by the Secretary of State for Defence on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, which impedes the excellent work that it does in maintaining cemeteries and memorials in 145 countries throughout the world; and calls upon the Government, as part of the D-Day commemoration, to provide the funding which the Commission requires to maintain their cemeteries and memorials to a standard worthy of the servicemen and women who died and which can be visited with pride by all including their families and others who thankfully survived the two World Wars.
