Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Terry Rooney (Labour), on Wednesday, 2 February 1994, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 36 members in total.
RAWSON AND KIRKGATE MARKETS IN BRADFORD
That this House pays tribute to the services provided by the tenants of Rawson and Kirkgate markets in Bradford; notes that the markets are extremely well patronised, provide a wide range of price and choice for customers and is therefore appalled by suggestions from the Government that local authority provision of such markets should be abandoned allowing any markets to be established at whim; expresses grave concern that such a policy would result in trading in both shoddy and stolen goods, difficulties in enforcing adequate standards of hygiene, welfare and service facilities and endanger the livelihoods of hard working market traders; and calls upon the Government to abandon this latest attempt to foist nutty, free market ideas on an unwilling public.
