HILLIER'S DISPUTE-TWELVE MONTHS ON

That this House notes the rally which took place in Reading on 11th December to mark the first anniversary of the industrial dispute at E. Hillier & Son, where workers were sacked and then locked out, for refusing to accept pay cuts of up to 38 per cent.; congratulates the sacked workers for their resilience over the past year in defence of negotiated terms and conditions of employment; further notes the efforts of the trade unions involved in attempting to negotiate a settlement to the dispute, and the refusal of company management to concede the basic human right of trade union representations; and calls on the Government to urge E. Hillier & Son to resolve the dispute on an agreed basis, allowing the sacked employees to return to work and production to resume at an early date. (Relevant registered interest declared).
