Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Bridget Prentice (Labour), on Tuesday, 25 January 1994, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 68 members in total.

DIRECTEAM

That this House recognises that Labour councils have an unbeatable record in providing quality and value for money services which meet the needs of the communities they were elected to serve; that they have led the way in improving service delivery and ensuring their services are customer oriented and publicly accountable; records with pride that the London Borough of Lewisham's direct labour organisation, DIRECTeam, this year has achieved its goal of becoming 'the best public service provider in the country' by being awarded the Investors in People accreditation; congratulates Lewisham Council for DIRECTeam's becoming the first public organisation in the country to gain BS5750 Quality Assurance for refuse and cleansing, street management, carparking, passenger service and support services, as well as gaining a Charter Mark for the refuse and street cleansing service; notes that it was DIRECTeam which pioneered the cash-back guarantees for the non-delivery of services long before similar ideas were adopted by the present Government; and demands recognition that Labour councils are attaining standards unmatched by local authorities controlled by other parties.
