Question: To ask the Deputy Prime Minister, if he will arrange for an independent inquiry to be held into the building control and inspection procedures of the National House Building Council (NHBC); and if he will invite members of the public dissatisfied with the performance of the NHBC to give evidence.

Answer: Bob Russell: To ask the Deputy Prime Minister if he will arrange for an independent inquiry to be held into the building control and inspection procedures of the National House Building Council (NHBC); and if he will invite members of the public dissatisfied with the performance of the NHBC to give evidence. [224914] Phil Hope: There is no evidence to suggest that there is a general problem with the building control inspection regime currently employed by the National House Building Council (NHBC). Consequently the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has no plans to call an independent inquiry. However, officials in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister will continue to work closely with NHBC to resolve the isolated cases involving claims from new home buyers.
