To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many people in the UK have died of MRSA in NHS hospitals since 2001.

The information requested falls within the responsibility of the National Statistician, who has been asked to reply.Letter from Len Cook to Mr. Andrew Rosindell, dated 24 May 2005:"As National Statistician, I have been asked to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question asking how many people in the UK have died from MRSA in NHS hospitals since 2001. (312)""Special analysis of MRSA deaths are undertaken by the Office for National Statistics and are published annually in Health Statistics Quarterly. These are for England and Wales only. The latest year for which figures are available is 2003. Numbers of deaths where MRSA was a contributory factor in NHS general hospitals within England and Wales are given in the table below."
