VE Day Celebrations (Moscow)

Question
To ask the Prime Minister what factors he took into account in reaching his decision not to attend the VE Day celebrations in Moscow.
Answer

The principal commemoration of the end of World War 2 will be on 10 July 2005, which falls between the anniversaries of VE and VJ days. Her Majesty The Queen will lead the celebrations and I shall also attend. The Ministry of Defence, in consultation with other Government Departments and veterans, made the announcement to this effect on 1 March 2004, Official Report, column 597.The Deputy Prime Minister represented the Government at the VE day celebrations in Moscow on 9 May.
