Artwork

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Health how much money was spent on purchasing artwork in each hospital trust in each of the last 24 months.
Answer

Data is not collected centrally on the particular purchase of artwork, but information is provided annually by national health service trusts on the amount invested in arts and art projects, including labour, material and resources received from other organisations. Information covering these returns for 2003–04 and 2004–05 has been placed in the Library. The data provided has not been amended centrally and the accuracy of this data is the responsibility of the provider organisation. Data for 2003–04 was provided as part of a mandatory data set. The information for 2004–05 was provided by trusts on a voluntary basis as part of the initiative to reduce bureaucracy in the national health service.
