Literacy and Numeracy

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what methods of assessment of (a) literacy and (b) numeracy skills are used as part of the recruitment process by employees of his Department.
Answer

Recruitment to my Department is competency based. Where literacy and numeracy skills are required, processes are in place to assess these skills through the application process. These include verification of formal qualifications, skills based questions and skills based tasks.
