Written question asked by Lord Campbell-Savours (Labour), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Lord Warner (Labour) on Thursday, 3 November 2005.

MRSA

Question
Whether they have received any reports about the    methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) testing procedures of Chemsol Consulting; and whether its testing procedures meet the required standard.
Answer

The Department of Health’s inspector of microbiology and infection control visited the Chemsol laboratory in July 2004. It does not fulfil the criteria for accreditation by Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Ltd and would not be acceptable for undertaking microbiology tests on patients or the environment for National Health Service bodies.
