Nuclear Power
- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what pricing arrangements pertain to electricity produced from nuclear power stations, with particular reference to arrangements made under the non-fossil fuel obligation.
- Answer
-
There are currently no special pricing arrangements pertaining to electricity produced from nuclear power stations—they sell their output to the wholesale electricity market in the same way as other generators. The nuclear industry in England and Wales ceased to benefit from guaranteed subsidies provided under the non-fossil fuel obligation in 1998 following the privatisation of British Energy.
