Bereavement Allowance

- To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions if he will make a statement on bereavement allowance.

Bereavement benefits, which were introduced in 2001, are payable to both men and women who satisfy the qualifying conditions.The bereavement allowance is a contributory benefit payable for a maximum period of 52 weeks from the date of bereavement. It is a weekly benefit payable to qualifying widows and widowers who are aged between 45 and state pension age.
