I am sure that the hon. Gentleman was referring in his opening remarks to hard-working civil servants serving the country with absolute impartiality and objectivity in the information that they make available. I am sure that that is what he intended to say, at any rate. We all recognise that there have been difficulties with the implementation of tax credit arrangements. That is why such effort has been put into ensuring that the system operates fairly and efficiently—and for the great majority of people, that is indeed the case. The system provides opportunities and financial support for families that was simply not previously available. Crucially, it also helps very many single-parent families back into the labour market. That would not have been possible without the availability of tax credits. I recognise that more work has to be done to ensure that the system can in particular respond quickly to the sudden and dramatic changes that affect people in their daily lives—that is the reason for the difficulties that have arisen—and we will continue to monitor that.
