Employment Statistics

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many and what percentage of people were employed in the (a) public and (b) private sector in each (i) ward, (ii) county and (iii) constituency in Northern Ireland in each of the last 20 years.

The information requested is not available.However, estimates of the number of employee jobs in the public and private sector by parliamentary constituency area are available from the Census of Employment on a biennial basis from September 1997 and the most up to date figures relate to September 2003. Estimates of the number of employee jobs in the public and private sector in each parliamentary constituency area in Northern Ireland between September 1997 and September 2003 are shown in the following table 1. A further breakdown of this information by county or ward is not readily available.
