DNA Database

- To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many DNA profiles are held on the national DNA database, broken down by ethnic origin.

The information requested is not available. The national DNA database and underlying police national computer records indicate ethnic ‘appearance' judged by a police officer. No information relating to self-assessed ethnicity is held on these databases. Information on ethnic appearance is available in the latest national DNA database annual report a copy of which will be put in the House Library.
