Israel: Mordechai Vanunu
- Question
- Whether they will make representations to the Government of Israel to rescind the extra 12 months’ movement restriction imposed on Mordechai Vanunu following the end of his 18 years’ incarceration.
- Answer
-
On 27 April 2006, our embassy in Tel Aviv raised our concerns with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the decision to extend the movement restrictions for Mr Vanunu. Our ambassador in Tel Aviv previously raised our concerns in September 2005 when the restrictions were extended. We recognise that Israel has a right to protect its national security but are concerned that the restrictions are excessive.
