- To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department in what circumstances the police retain DNA samples of people who have been assisting a victim of crime.
- Answer

DNA samples taken from a volunteer as part of the investigation of an offence are destroyed once they have fulfilled the purpose for which they were taken unless the volunteer gives written permission for them to be retained on the National DNA database.
