Self-harm

- To ask the Secretary of State for Health what recent estimate she has made of the number of children and young people who self-harm, broken down by (a) sex and (b) ethnic group.

Information is not collected in the form requested. In 2002, a survey by the Office for National Statistics of 12,000 five to 15-year-olds found that 1.3 per cent. had tried to self-harm.
