Oral question asked in the House of Lords, by Earl of Liverpool (Conservative). It was answered on Monday, 5 June 2006.
Nuclear Waste: Storage
- Question
- My Lords, perhaps I may follow on the point made by the noble Lord, Lord Judd. As most of us are aware, the second highest tidal range in the world is around the British Isles. This is an asset which, I believe, we ignore at our peril. Does the Minister have any plans to stop the Government’s negative attitude to tidal lagoon technology?
- Answer
-
My Lords, as we have discussed many times in this House, tidal lagoon energy is a perfectly mature technology. Should anyone come forward with a project which can be pursued on an economic basis, I am sure that the Government and the planning authorities will look on it very favourably.
