2011 Census

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when a decision will be taken about the inclusion of questions on knowledge of Irish and Ulster Scots in the 2011 census in Northern Ireland.
Answer

Proposals for the 2011 census, including the topics and questions to be included will be brought forward in a White Paper, currently planned for the autumn of 2008. These proposals will take account of consultation with users, the testing and evaluation of options and the balancing of different requirements. The final content of the census will ultimately be determined through the legislative process in the form of a census order and census regulations, probably around 2010.
