Written question asked by Baroness Hoey (Labour) on Friday, 14 July 2006, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Tuesday, 18 July 2006. It was answered by Caroline Flint (Labour) on Tuesday, 25 July 2006 on behalf of the Department of Health.

vCJD Compensation Scheme

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps her Department is taking to ensure that administrative costs paid to Charles Russell solicitors for their administration of the vCJD compensation scheme are kept as low as possible; and if she will make a statement.
Answer

The vCJD Trust has appointed the legal firm, Charles Russell, to provide support. The trust is independent of the Department and these arrangements, and their costs, are therefore the responsibility of the trust. Both the Department and the trust agree on the importance of minimising costs wherever possible.
