Rural Enterprise Scheme

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs how many Rural Enterprise Scheme applications from the South West were (a) received and (b) granted in each of the last 18 months; and what the value of payments made to applicants from the South West was in (i) each of the last 18 months and (ii) over the life of the scheme.
Answer

The following table shows the number of applications received and approved in each month from April 2005 to September 2006, and the value of payments made under the Rural Enterprise Scheme for the same period.It is important to note that there is no direct correlation between the number of applications received and approved in a particular month, due to the detailed appraisal process. Furthermore, as claims can be spread over months or years, the payments do not relate specifically to the applications listed in previous columns.The total value of payments made over the life of the Rural Enterprise Scheme is £20,129,666.76.
