Radioactive Waste Policy Group

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what the (a) remit and (b) membership is of the radioactive waste policy group (RWPG); what reports have been issued by the RWPG; and if he will make a statement on the future of the group.

Answer: The Radioactive Waste Policy Group (RWPG) is chaired and managed by DEFRA. RWPG represents Government Departments, devolved Administrations, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and the principal regulatory bodies.RWPG has the remit to carry out reviews, calling on external advice as necessary, and to co-ordinate radioactive waste management policy and regulatory initiatives.The group meets three to four times a year and functions through correspondence during the intervening periods.Further information and RWPG updates are available on the DEFRA website at:"http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/radioactivity/waste/rwpg/index.htm"
