Asylum: Somalia

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what his estimate is of the number of failed asylum seekers from (a) Iraq and (b) Somalia in the UK on 1 April.
Answer

As my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary set out in his evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee on 23 May 2006, no government has been able to produce an accurate figure for the number of people who are in the country illegally, and that remains the case.
