Agriculture: Pig and Poultry Producers

Question: Whether pig and poultry producers who apply for integrated pollution prevention and control permits will have the details of their holding advertised in the public domain; and, if so, what is the reason for this.

Answer: The Pollution Prevention and Control (England and Wales) Regulations 2000 require an advertisement to be placed in the local press and in the London Gazette, showing that a permit application has been made. A copy of the permit application itself and any permit issued as a result are required by the regulations to be held on the public register maintained by the Environment Agency at its relevant local office. Full details of a holding are not required to be advertised.
