Shipping: Radioactive Materials
- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what bilateral agreements with (a) other European Union States, (b) Norway and (c) Russia are in place to provide emergency response to an incident in their waters involving a vessel carrying plutonium-based MOX fuel being moved from Sellafield.
- Answer

Companies operating ships used to transport MOX are required to have a shipboard emergency plan which would be activated in the event of an incident. The plan may involve contractual agreements with overseas organisations to provide assistance but are not dependent on the existence of bilateral agreements between the UK government and other states.
