Health: Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- Question
- asked Her Majesty's Government:What assessment they have made of the number of children who will have an examination using ionising radiation rather than magnetic resonance imaging each year; and at what radiation dose if the European Union Physical Agents Directive is ratified.
- Answer
-
Some 2,481,571 people had an imaging examination using ionising radiation in 2005-06. The data do not distinguish childrenfrom adults. The European Union Physical Agents Directive covers the health and safety of staff working with non-ionising radiation examinations such as magnetic resonance imaging. It does not cover ionising radiation. Source: Annual KH12 return.
