Driving: Mobile Phones

- To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions he had with the Secretary of State for Transport regarding the use of mobile telephones while driving in each of the last five years; and if he will make a statement.

Ministers and officials discuss, as necessary, on roads policing issues, including the use of mobile phones while driving. Such discussions include for example the inclusion in the Road Safety Act 2006 of a provision (section 26), amending the Road Traffic Act 1988 to increase the penalty for offences involving mobile phone use while driving.
