Chad

Question
asked Her Majesty's Government:What discussions they have held with European Union Ministers on the deployment and potential mandate of the international peacekeeping troops to Chad and their relationship with the United Nations, African Union and NATO.
Answer

At the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council discussion between EU Ministers on 23 July, the UK strongly endorsed the French initiative for an EU bridging force in Chad until the UN itself is able to deploy a peacekeeping mission there. The UK will continue to work with the French and other EU partners, as well as the UN, to determine the best option for troop deployments to improve the security and humanitarian situation in the region.
