Pensions: Investment in Sudan
- Question
- To what extent Civil Service pension funds and any other funds controlled by the Government have been divesting from businesses that invest in the Sudanese economy, in light of the ongoing crisis in Darfur.
- Answer
-
The majority of public service schemes, including Civil Service and NHS, are unfunded schemes, which means that schemes do not have pension funds which they invest. The Local Government Pension Scheme is a funded scheme and investment decisions taken by local authorities with responsibilities for the management and investment of pension funds are a matter for those individual authorities acting within a statutory frameworkâthe Local Government Pension Scheme (Management and Investment of Funds) Regulations 1998.
