Prisons: Drugs

- To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what estimate he has made of the (a) number and (b) percentage of prisoners who used intravenous drugs during their imprisonment in the latest period for which figures are available.
- Answer

The covert nature of injecting behaviour in prison makes it hard to measure but research suggests that around 2 per cent. of those using drugs in prison do so intravenously compared with the pre-prison rate of 35 per cent.
