Crime: Racial Violence

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many crimes of racial violence were reported in the Durham police authority area in each year since 2000; and how many resulted in conviction.
Answer

The available information relates to offences of racially or religiously aggravated offences. The statistics requested cannot be provided in the form requested since it is not possible to track individual offences to conclusion and therefore convictions cannot be directly related to the offences recorded. The recorded offences data given in table 1 are based on the number of crimes reported to and recorded by the police and are on a financial year basis. The convictions data in table 2 are based on the number of offenders convicted and are on a calendar year basis. Convictions figures are counts of offenders classified by their principal offence.

² Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete. However, it is important to note that these data have been extracted from large administrative data systems generated by the courts and police forces. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when those data are used.
