Zimbabwe: Sanctions
- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether at the recent EU-Africa summit the African Union proposed the EU end all sanctions against Zimbabwe as a condition for signing new trade deals; and if he will make a statement.
- Answer
-
No such proposal was made.It is the responsibility of EU member states to consider the lifting of sanctions in their working groups in Brussels. These meetings focus on whether the lift criteria laid down in the common position has been met. Zimbabwe is still a long way from meeting these lift criteria.
