Written question asked by Lord Foster of Bath (Liberal Democrat) on Thursday, 6 March 2008, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Monday, 10 March 2008. It was answered by Baroness Hodge of Barking (Labour) on Thursday, 13 March 2008 on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Culture Online

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what assessment his Department has made of the impact of Culture Online on reaching new audiences for the arts, with particular reference to hard-to-reach groups.
Answer

The Department commissioned Demos to produce an overview of Culture Online's work. Its report Logging On: Culture, Participation and the Web, was published in May 2007 and provides an overview of lessons learned from the Culture Online programme and advice on how web technology can increase public participation in culture. I am arranging for copies of the report to be deposited in the House Libraries.
