Question
To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what projections for future years have been made by the Office for National Statistics of (a) the number and (b) the proportion of schoolchildren with (i) one or both parents who were born abroad and (ii) English as a second language.
Answer

The information requested falls within the responsibility of the UK Statistics Authority. I have asked the Authority to reply.Letter from Karen Dunnell, dated May 2008:"As National Statistician I have been asked to reply to your question regarding what projections for future years have been made of (a) the number and (b) the proportion of schoolchildren with (i) one or both parents who were born abroad and (ii) English as a second language. (206272)""Population projections are not made on the basis of country of birth. Neither have projections been made of those who have English as a second language."
