Dogs: Animal Breeding

Question
(4) whether the Government plan to sign the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals.
Answer

We are unaware of any voluntary breeding schemes that are not supported by the Kennel Club.We will wish to evaluate the success of the Kennel Club's Accredited Breeders Scheme when considering the need for any new legislation covering the breeding of dogs.I also refer the hon. Member to the reply given on 11 June 2008, Official Report, columns 273-74W.
