Written question asked by John Greenway (Conservative) on Wednesday, 8 October 2008, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Monday, 13 October 2008. It was answered by Ian Pearson (Labour) on Tuesday, 21 October 2008 on behalf of the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.

Broadband: Rural Areas

Question
To ask the Minister of State, Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform what assessment he has made of the contribution of the public sector-led broadband initiative NYnet to the economic competitiveness of North Yorkshire; and if he will make a statement.
Answer

BERR has not made an assessment of the contribution of NYnet to the economic competitiveness of North Yorkshire, but Regeneris Consulting and Adroit Economics were commissioned by Yorkshire Forward to carry out an evaluation of Yorkshire Forward's contribution to the North Yorkshire broadband programme, which included a look at future impacts of NYnet, as it was too early to make judgment on actual impact. The report is not yet publicly available.
