Departmental Buildings

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills pursuant to the answer to the hon. Member for Rochford and Southend, East of 6 October 2008, Official Report, columns 527-28W, on departmental buildings, what the cost of the refurbishment was.

Answer: The cost of the refurbishment at Kingsgate house, undertaken by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform on behalf of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, was £5.1 million. This provided a cost-effective working environment, with flexible desking on the basis of eight desks for every 10 people, movement-activated lighting to reduce power consumption and video conferencing facilities to reduce travel costs.
