Business question from Parmjit Dhanda (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 22 January 2009. It occurred during Business statement on Business of the House.
Business of the House
These are my own cufflinks, Mr. Speaker. Would my right hon. and learned Friend consider allowing time for a debate on the accountability of local government? A few weeks ago the chairman of Gloucester City football club and I approached Gloucestershire county council for some money to put towards a new football stadium. The council said that no money was available at all, but overnight it has announced the use of £7.4 million to purchase of a piece of land on the edge of my constituency for a 10-storey incinerator, despite the fact that those involved said in their manifesto that they opposed incineration.
