- To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) pursuant to the statement of 12 February 2009, Official Report, columns 1531-44, on new trains (investment), on what information his estimate of the 12,500 long-term jobs expected to be created or safeguarded by the contract to re-equip the East Coast and Great Western Main Lines with new express trains is based;

[holding answer 20 March 2009]: Agility Trains advises that it has adopted an industry standard multiplier assumption, used with regard to the automotive industry, that each direct job will create, or secure, around four jobs within the supply chain and the wider economy.
