Departmental Dismissal

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many members of staff in his Department and its agencies were dismissed (a) for under-performance and (b) in total in each of the last 10 years.
Answer

The Department of Transport was formed in 2002. A total of 522 members of staff have been dismissed. Of these 81 can be identified as dismissed for under-performance. A breakdown is provided in the following table but it does not include the Government Car and Despatch Agency, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency or the Highways Agency; figures which can be provided only at disproportionate cost.
