Motorcycles: Testing

Question
To ask the Minister of State, Department for Transport what recent assessment he has made of the safety for riders of the swerve manoeuvre in the motorcycle test; and if he will make a statement.
Answer

The Driving Standards Agency is keeping the hazard avoidance manoeuvre under review as part of its monitoring process.As of mid June 2009, there had been over 9,000 off-road Module 1 tests conducted, and 33 incidents, including non-injury incidents—an incident rate of 0.4 per cent.
