- To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many (a) standard and (b) enhanced checks from the Criminal Records Bureau were outstanding on the latest date for which figures are available; and how many such checks were outstanding on the same date in each year since 1997.

As at 30 September each year: Total applications in progress 2009 266,023 2008 274,618 2007 142,031 2006 213,130 These figures represent the total number of applications that were being processed as at 30 September in the last four years but do not show the length of time each individual application has been in the system.
