Climate Change: EU Action

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change what his policy is on the establishment of a European Commission Directorate General for energy and climate change; and if he will make a statement.

Answer: [holding answer 3 November 2009]: The formation of DECC last year emphasised the Government's belief that energy and climate change policies are inextricably linked. This applies equally at an EU level where it is vital that these policy areas are taken forward together and that, in particular, all necessary links are made between policy makers in the European Commission in order to deliver shared objectives. This is more important than the organisational structure of directorates general per se.
