Cremation
- Question
- (3) what recent representations his Department has received on retention of cremation ashes;
- Answer
-
We currently have no plans to issue guidance on what should be done with retained cremation ashes. Regulation 30 of the Cremation (England and Wales) Regulations 2008, which came into force on 1 January 2009, sets out the duties of cremation authorities in respect of the disposal of ashes. Although a number of representations on this subject were received by the Ministry of Justice in 2008 and 2009, no further representations have been received recently.
