Local Strategic Partnerships: Members

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government on how many boards of local strategic partnerships hon. Members are represented.

Answer: Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs) are groups of local organisations and their representatives which come together voluntarily to work in partnership for the benefit of the communities they serve.A Survey of Local Strategic Partnerships conducted in 2008 reported that 50 per cent. are chaired by either the council leader or executive mayor and a further 6 per cent. by a councillor who is a member of a local authority executive (cabinet).Local authority executive councillors were reported as being members on 94 per cent. of LSPs and non-executive councillors on 43 per cent. The survey also reported that 10 per cent. of LSPs included Members of Parliament or Members of the European Parliament.
