Tetra: Health Hazards

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from organisations representing police officers on reports of ill health among police officers assigned to duties near Tetra masts.

Answer: Since the rollout of Airwave radio in 2001, the Government have funded research into the safety of Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) technology. None of the research to date has produced any evidence that Airwave terminals or masts are harmful to the health of police officers or the public.The Police Federation of England and Wales and the Scottish Police Federation support the view that Airwave TETRA radio is an effective communications tool that enhances officer safety. They maintain a strong interest in the short and long-term health effects of Airwave.
