Science: Finance

Question: To ask the Minister of State, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills from which areas of his Department's budget for science he expects to make savings.

Answer: No decisions have been reached on the future size of the science budget. The Government will spend £6 billion on science and research by 2010/11, a doubling in real terms since 1997. The Government remain committed to the ring-fence and the ten-year Science and Innovation Investment Framework. We shall continue to prioritise funding to deliver a world-class research base, capable of addressing key challenges including environmental change, ageing and global security.
